Mr. Maguina has been an academic and test prep tutor at Mavin Learning Resources for the past five years, helping students prepare for standardized tests and improve their English skills, from basic pronunciation to college-level argumentative essays. Mr. Maguina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from UCLA, as well as TESOL and TEFL certificates.

He believes in the personal responsibility of every student toward his or her own academic development. As an educator, he sees his job as a facilitator of learning, blending his skill and knowledge to help students grasp a subject matter easier, quicker, and more thoroughly, through whichever methodology is most fruitful. He believes that the greatest obstacles to academic excellence are self-doubt and poor study habits and that intelligence or IQ plays no role in 99% of people’s academic or career achievements.

During his time at Mavin, Mr. Maguina has helped hundreds of students achieve their academic goals, with over 5,000 hours of tutoring experience and all five-star reviews from parents and students.
