For over 15 years, Keith Hedlund has been helping young people prepare for the college application process as an admissions consultant, essay writing coach, teacher, and academic advisor, and he looks forward to working with you, too! He holds a BA in religious studies and English from Williams College, an MFA in Film, TV and Digital Media from UCLA, and an MFA in English and Creative Writing from Brown University, where he designed and taught advanced undergraduate writing classes and was an Associate at the Brown Writing Center. He is an active member of the alumni associations of all three schools.
Keith specializes in working with international students and first and second generation American students. He is also a published writer, filmmaker, and college instructor, and this work informs his creative yet challenging methodology.
Before coming to work for Mavin Learning Resources, Keith formed and taught the college essay curriculum for the Center for Urban Education’s Upward Bound program in New York City. In San Francisco, he was one of the founding instructors of 826 Valencia, the internationally renowned youth writing organization. In Southern California, he became the Greater Los Angeles Area Senior Essay Coach for a California-based college prep agency. Currently, in addition to his work for Mavin, he teaches film at AMDA College and Conservatory and he also works as an independent writer-filmmaker (he was recently awarded a prestigious Sloan Foundation Science and Film Feature Screenwriting Award). He looks forward to helping you become the best version of yourself!
